Bat Napkin
This past weekend was our city’s annual Smoky Hill River Festival, a three-day celebration of food, fun, art, and music.
Pottery, painting, embroidery, jewelry, fine art, plus crafts such as soaps, mixed media, and upcycled apparel is just a tiny taste of what the festival offers.

And speaking of taste, a bounty of food trucks and tents wind their way through the festival grounds tempting you at every turn.
Gator on a stick, hamburgers topped with mac and cheese, deep-fried butter (I kid you not), and homemade soda – there’s something for everyone.
I opted for vegetarian tacos and old-fashioned homemade ice cream.
Opening night kicks off with the ever-popular Festival Jam featuring over a dozen bands. The music continues throughout the festival, with various bands and other musical acts playing from morning to night.
One thing guaranteed during the festival is that you will be damp – either from rain or humidity. This year it was the humidity, so after checking out every vendor, buying some treasures, and hitting the food trucks, we escaped to the air-controlled comfort of home.

Feeling inspired after making our rounds through all the creative artworks, I was motivated to work on my SVG-making skills.
I’m relatively new to making SVGs. I took a course when I began this blog, and even though I’ve had a version of Illustrator for years, I focused on Inkscape as it was less intimidating.
Here’s a sneak peek of what I’m currently working on:
I’ve still got to test the cuts and ensure it’s ready, but I plan to make the free files available early next month.

These are the perfect haunted touch for your next Halloween dinner party and are so easy to fold.
Let me walk you through it.
How To Fold A Bat Napkin
You will need a square napkin. Mine is approximately 18″ square.
First, iron your napkins to remove any wrinkles.
Next, fold the napkin in half to form a triangle.
Now, fold the napkin in half again to form a smaller triangle.
Then fold the point up and over the top by about 2-3″.
Tuck about 1 1/2″ of your point under to the back.
Locate the center at the bottom edge. Hold the center with your finger and fold the left point upward to form the wing.
Repeat on the right side and smooth both wings to flatten.
Pinch the center of the “head” with your fingers to make the ears.
And, that’s it! So, now you have a charming creature of the night bat napkin for your Halloween table.
