Do you ever bring home that spooky little something even when it doesn’t match your haunted style?
I have several “little somethings” that need an overhaul, so I’ve been busy rehabbing these spooky pieces to better fit my Halloween vibe.
We’re keeping this short and sweet this week because the projects are piling up, and I’m in the mood to knock out my to-do list.
So, without further adieu, let’s get started.
First up is a gold snake candle holder that I picked up at Marshall’s for $9.99.
The detail is excellent, but the gold is a bit garish for my taste.
No worries, with some paint and Rub’n Buff, we’ll transform this piece from gaudy to ghoulish.
Slather the snake with black chalk paint, ensuring the paint gets in all the crevices.
Allow it to dry thoroughly.
Using a blending tool, lightly dust the scales with European Gold Rub’n Buff.
You can add as much gold as you like. I kept it light and limited it to the top of the scales.
Now, this looks more like my style.
And how simple was that?!
These bats from the Dollar Tree leave a bit to be desired, but underneath, they hide some haunted treasure.
Unwrap the tinsel, and you’ll find a great base to build a bat in your style.
I cut off the plastic nubs, but if you use a softer wrapping material, you may want to leave yours in place.
Hot glue strands of macrame jute cord across the body section until the area is filled.
Next, wrap the jute around the ears and wings, using hot glue where necessary, to hold the jute in place.
Spooky simple.
