We are on the precipice of August, my friends, and despite the 103° temperature today, I can already feel that Fall is in the air!
While I have been seeing some stores tease out Autumn and Halloween goodies since May, this past weekend, I noticed that retailers are beginning to unleash the floodgates.
Dollar Tree was unpacking boxes, and Marshall’s had a few items on their shelves, Lowe’s had their animatronics out, and – my personal favorite – Grandin Road’s Halloween catalog arrived.

To celebrate the Halloween kickoff, I’ve been behind the scenes quietly crafting the perfect party pieces – Printable Halloween Party Hats.
This project is another that got away from me. I had so much fun creating these that I made six sets.
The Retro Halloween set is loaded with cats, bats, and ghosts and has everything you need to get the party started.
So, let’s jump in.
Retro Halloween Party Hat
We will need:
White letter-size cardstock
Printer
Scissors, X-Acto knife, or finger blades
Adhesive – we prefer a glue stick or roll-on adhesive tape for the base and hot glue for embellishments.
Cutting machine (optional) for adornments only
Embellishments
Elastic cording

We will also need the Retro Halloween Party Hat files from the Haunted Library.
The file includes a PDF with hats and adornments for hand cutting and a Print Then Cut PNG file for machine cutting adornments.
(Hats are hand-cut only.)
Making The Cut
Open the Printable Retro Halloween Party Hat file in Adobe Reader or your favorite PDF reader and print the hats onto cardstock.

Cut out the party hats using scissors, an X-Acto knife, or a finger blade.

Note that the solid line along the straight edge of each hat is an overlap guide, not a cutting line.

Assembling Your Halloween Party Hat
To make your hat easier to assemble, gently curl it along the edge of a table.

Run a line of adhesive along the hat’s straight edge, keeping it on the outside of the overlap line guide.

Overlap the unmarked straight edge onto the overlap guide and gently press the pieces together.

Let's Decorate!
The Retro Halloween Party Hat set includes adornments you can print and use to embellish your party hat.
These can be printed and hand-cut from the PDF, or you can use the included Print Then Cut PNG file with a cutting machine.

Machine Cutting Note: Check that the Adornment design dimensions measure 6.744 x 9.192 (6 Dot Sheet) and 6.476 x 8.908 (5 Dot Sheet).
Resize if necessary.
Use the Adornments to decorate your party hat as desired.

Add embellishments such as ribbon, poms, glitter, rick rack, etc.

Get Ready To Wear
To wear your party hat, punch a small hole into each side of the hat.

Measure out enough elastic cord to comfortably secure your hat under your chin, plus an additional inch.
Insert the elastic into the holes and knot or add a fastener to secure.
Alternatively, you can attach your hat to a headband.
