As I write this, it’s 107° here in middle America. I’m not a fan of the heat. I prefer not to sweat unless I’m working out. So, I’m tucked inside with Lily Pug, working in the office and dreaming of the cool, crisp days of Autumn.
I did head out to pick up a few ingredients for an apple cider brew. This bewitching beverage is a perfect Halloween party drink. It’s super simple to make and very tasty. But I think this heatwave needs cooling down, so I’m not waiting for Fall to whip up a batch.
Grab your blender or a food processor, and let’s pretend that the leaves are falling, pumpkin spice is in the air, and Halloween is just around the corner.
Bewitching Apple Brew
Here’s what we’ll need for this Halloween party drink:
2 c apple cider
2 c vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt
2 T honey
1/2 t ground cinnamon
1/4 t ground nutmeg
Apple Fan (optional – How To below)
Makes four 8 oz servings.
Place all ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth.
Pour into individual glasses and garnish with additional nutmeg.
So, so simple. But, because we are spoiling ourselves, let’s elevate this a bit with an Apple Fan garnish.
Apple Fan Garnish
Stand apple upright on the cutting board and cut about 1/8″ away from the stem, cutting off about one-half of your apple.
Place this half face down on your cutting board. Rotate the apple to the left or right so that the top faces to one side. (Rotating the apple will give your garnish a cleaner look.)
Thinly slice your apple. Take 3 to 5 pieces, skewer them together and gently fan them out.
Set your apple fan across the top of your glass.
Now, don’t you feel all fancy?!
You can save this for the season – or – you can crank the AC down, curl up on the sofa in a blanket while watching your fave Halloween movie and, dream of Autumn days.
Ahhh, I can feel Fall already.
