Spooky Halloween Sachets
Oh, fellow Halloween fiends, you know the struggle is real.
Currently, the sofa in our game room has completely vanished beneath a glorious mountain of costume chaos.
We’re talking animal ear headbands, clown collars, felt hats, funky glasses – you name it, it’s in there, and probably in triplicate. The spooky stash is overflowing and waiting for me to dive in and sort it all out.
Last Halloween, I cracked open the accessory bins to cobble together ensembles for the Trunk or Treat event at the hubby’s workplace.
Afterward, I intended to thin the haunted herd and pare it down to a more manageable level of madness. Yet – here we are.
And this is just the tip of my costume iceberg.
The real fright lies beyond as the costumes now occupy three closets, a corner of the workout room, the attic (oh mercy, the attic), and now, of course, the game room.
And yet, when I passed by this monstrous mound of mayhem, did I stop and attempt to tame the chaos?
No, I did not.
Instead, my Halloween-obsessed brain veered in an entirely different direction. I glanced at the closet this frightful pile had escaped from and thought, You know what this haunted horde needs? Some sinister scents to freshen up the fear.
So, naturally, I ditched the organizing and went straight into the studio to craft some deliciously dark Halloween sachets instead.
These simple, spooky-scented boogie bags slip perfectly into your costume closet or any creepy corner needing a little eerie aroma.
And, you can customize them to whatever level of creepy your haunted little heart desires.
So, if you’re in the mood for some spine-chilling scents, grab your cauldron – we’re getting witchy with it.

Fun Fillers
Here are a few things to consider:
There are numerous options of scented filler for your spooky sachets, such as:
Dried herbs
Dried florals
Spices
Cedar shavings
Potpourri
Essential oil spritzed on rice and Epsom salt (recipe below)
I grabbed this dried flowers and herbs sampler from Amazon, and it is drop-dead divine! I dry my own florals, but I just had to try this and was not disappointed.
This bewitching bounty of 24 botanicals is a Halloween dream and perfect for these spooky sachets. Delicately scented, a ghostly spritz of essential oil will help boost the fragrance and allow it to linger longer.
Ink Notes
There are specialty ink pads available for stamping on fabric.
I opted to use the basic stamp pads I had on hand as I don’t plan on laundering these, and any fading will just add to the spooky appeal.
Spooky Sachet Stamp & Stitch
Sachet Sizing
Cut two pieces of fabric larger than your desired sachet size.
You’re sachet can be a square, rectangle, circle, or whatever shape your desire.
Loading….
Load the stamp with ink and press it into your fabric near the center.
If you fear the ink will transfer through to the surface below, slip a piece of paper underneath.
Firm But Gentle
Press down firmly, but don’t wiggle the stamp.
Stack It Up
Stack the stamped fabric onto the plain fabric and clip the pieces together if desired.
Stitch It Up
Stitch 1/4″ away from the raw edge around the Halloween sachet leaving a 2″ opening along the top.
Out of This Realm Recipe – Sachet Filler
Brew up your own frightfully fragrant filler with just a few simple ingredients.
Haunted Sachet Bouquet
- 1/2 cup dry white rice
- 1/4 cup Epson salt
- 15 – 20 drops of your favorite essential oil
Optionally, spritz dried florals with your scent of choice.
Stuff The Daylights Out Of It
Tuck It In
Tuck the filler of your choice into your Halloween sachet through the opening.
I prefer to add my filler to a small mesh or cheesecloth bag and then slip the bag inside the sachet.
DIY Inside Your DIY
You can make your own bag using a square scrap of mesh and a ribbon or rubber band. Just bundle the filler in the center, bring up the edges, and secure.
Getting Loopy
Pin or clip a ribbon loop along the opening in the top center of your Halloween sachet.
Final Stitches
Stitch closed the opening.
Shuddering Short Cut
Go No Sew
Need a last-minute, no-sew option?
Stamp directly onto a ready-made cheesecloth bag, then fill it with dried florals.
Shockingly simple!
Bewitching Variations
Here are some fun variations you can try:
- To create a unique scene, use multiple stamps and ink colors
- For an easy decorative edge, cut out your sachet using pinking shears
- For a unique border, close the edges with a blanket stitch
- Level up the stitching by skipping the sewing machine and hand stitching with colorful embroidery floss
Sinisterly Scented
These came together wicked quick, and I brewed up a whole batch.
Every closet in the house now has its own little eerie scent sachet which pair perfectly with our haunted Halloween hangers.
We’ve got to keep those costumes and cobwebs smelling fangtastic!
Until next time – stay spooky.
