When I get a break from busyness and find myself with an extra moment, I’m often inspired to read from my TBR pile, which grows taller by the day.
This is also the time I like to leaf through my reference books to get inspirations and learn new techniques.
Of course, the busy never stays away for long, and as I often read more than one book at a time, it might be a bit before I get back to my page.
I like to spookify my library, so I’ve created several BOOmarks to help me keep my place.
Reading is so important around here that we even have a dedicated BOOkworm section on this blog.
With the holiday season upon us, I’m creating some new markers for the books I’m gifting for the holiday – and I’ll make a few for myself, too!
For this project, we will need:
Assortment of papers – plain cardstock, heavy paper, lightweight paper or vellum
Scissors or cutting machine – I’m using the Cricut Maker
Adhesive – I’m using Elmer’s Craftbond Extra Strength glue stick and Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue
We will also need the Creepy Corner Bookmark template from the Haunted Library. Select the SVG for machine cutting or the PDF if cutting by hand.
The file includes two versions – a solid bookmark and one featuring a web cutout.
To cut by hand, open the template with your favorite PDF reader (Adobe, FoxIt, etc.).
Set the bookmark pieces to print at Actual Size or resize if preferred.
Print the template, transfer it to your cardstock or heavy paper, and mark the score lines with a bone folder.
Cut out the bookmark base.
If you are making the web design bookmark, I recommend using a finger blade to cut the finer details.
Cut the backing piece from lightweight paper or vellum.
Upload the Creepy Corner Bookmark files into your design software for machine cutting. I’m using Cricut Design Space.
The large bookmarks are approximately 7 inches by 3.875 inches, and the small ones are 5 inches by 2.768 inches, but you can resize them if desired.
Open the file, select the base piece and click Ungroup.
Select the dotted lines of the base piece. As a default, all the lines will be shown as a Basic Cut.
With the lines selected, select Score from the Operation drop-down list.
Select the base and the score lines, and click Attach.
Now cut the base from heavy paper or cardstock and cut the backing from lightweight paper or vellum.
To assemble your spooky bookmark, fold the tab in.
Then, fold the bookmark along the center score line so it rests on top of the tab.
If you are assembling the web bookmark, glue the backing piece behind the web cutout prior to gluing the flap in place.
Apply adhesive to the flap and glue to the top piece.
Slip your simple spooky bookmarks over the corner to keep your spooky spot.
How simple was that?
Until next time – stay spooky.
