Halloween Tombstone Popcorn Boxes
It snowed. Again. And it’s bitterly cold. We’ve been at subzero for the past two days with wind chill down to -25/-30.
I. Am. Over. It.
The good news is that it will be in the 60s here in a few days, and I can’t wait!
Yesterday, I ventured out to pick up a few things, and I stopped by the movie theater to grab some popcorn to go with our latest season of The Recruit.
The thought of popcorn and movie night sparked my creative bug, so when I returned, I whipped up some tombstone popcorn boxes – perfect for a Halloween watch party.
If you’re up for some fast, frightful fun – let’s dig in.
Supplies To Make Halloween Tombstone Popcorn Boxes
For this project, we will need:
12×12 cardstock
Scissors or cutting machine with a scoring tool – I’m using the Cricut Maker
Adhesive
Cellophane or vellum
We will also need the Tombstone Popcorn Box Templates from the Haunted Library.
The template includes three tombstone designs, each with and without RIP cutout details. Select the SVG for machine cutting or the PDF if cutting by hand.
Making The Cut (Hand Cut Version)
Pop Open PDF
To cut by hand, open the template with your favorite PDF reader (Adobe, FoxIt, etc.).
Pattern Printing Perfection
Print your template, and ensure the pages are set to print at Actual Size.
The tombstone popcorn box will exceed the print area, so select the Poster option under Page & Size Handling.
Tape, Cut, & Score For The Win!
Tape together the template sections, transfer to your cardstock, and mark the score lines.
Then, cut out the box.
Sharply Successful
If you make the boxes with the RIP design, I recommend using a finger blade to cut the finer details.
Cut It Out (Machine Cut Version)
Template – Open Sesame
Upload the Tombstone Popcorn Box files into your design software for machine cutting. I’m using Cricut Design Space.
Ensure that your boxes are 11.50 inches on the longest side.
Don’t Be Basic
Open the file in the Layers Menu and select the dotted lines. As a default, all the lines will be shown as a Basic Cut.
Score!
With the lines selected, select Score from the Operation drop-down list.
No Attachment Issues Here
Now select the box and the scorelines, and click Attach.
Cut It Out (Literally!)
Now, your box is ready to cut.
Crypt Construction
Origami Vibes
To assemble, fold your box along the score lines.
Stick With Me
If you are assembling the boxes with the RIP detail, glue a square of cellophane or vellum behind the design prior to gluing the tabs in place.
Side Job
Apply adhesive to the tabs and glue to form the box.
Popcorn Box Perfection!
These tombstone popcorn boxes are perfect for movie nights, party favors, and treat boxes.
Fixings For A Frightfully Fun Flick
Tastefully Executed
Call me crazy, but I think the popcorn tastes even better in these tombstone popcorn boxes.
I think a Halloween movie night is in my future.
Until next time – stay spooky.
