Paper Leprechaun Beard – New In The Shop

The holidays keep rolling in, and we are on the precipice of one of my favorites – St. Patrick’s Day.
That’s not to say that pub crawls and green beer are in my future, but I do love shamrocks and some harmless shenanigans.
I also happen to be of Irish descent and enjoy seeing everyone embracing luck, limericks, and leprechauns.
For this St. Pat’s, I thought it would be fun to create an easy costume accessory that embraces the spirit of the holiday. And after an afternoon of playing around with different ideas, I landed on a series of blarney beards.
I had such fun creating this set that I finally had to stop myself, or I would never get them into the shop.
Irish Inspiration
The initial idea was to craft an easy-to-wear costume piece that wasn’t a hat or glasses.
I wanted a leprechaun beard without hair or faux fur that could shed into the Guinness. I also wanted one that was small enough to tuck away. So, I opted for cardstock and a more photobooth-style approach.
As I wanted something I could stash, I kept the beards small but still big enough to make a statement.
Keeping It Classic
First up, I kept it simple with the traditional ginger-toned beard, where I used a darker tangerine paper behind a soft orange whisker pattern.
This beard is the classic leprechaun color but in a more contemporary and less chin strap style than the typical costume piece.
The bonus of this little beard is that you can craft it in any color combination for a whole host of characters.
Feeling Lucky
Next, I decided to evoke the luck of the Irish and create a Lucky Shamrock beard decked out in shades of green.
Ultimately, I created two versions of the beard; both profess luck and are dotted with shamrocks for extra good fortune.
I loved the little four-leaf clovers on the Lucky beards so much that I repeated them to cover an entire beard.
For this piece, I backed the green cardstock one in golden green glitter reminiscent of the leprechaun’s quest for treasure.
Celtic Kiss
No St. Paddy’s set would be complete without the familiar expression – Kiss Me, I’m Irish.
This piece might be my favorite – wave when you welcome a kiss and tuck it away when you don’t.
Because these paper leprechaun beards are lightweight and small, carry one or two designs and change out as you like.
Building Beards
I turned to my Cricut cutting machine to cut these beards out quickly. Assembly is fast, too, requiring only a thin dowel, adhesive, and a bit of tape.
Since the cutouts are small, patience and a fine blade are required for cutting by hand.
If, like me, your patience isn’t up for the challenge – no worries. I added three simple printable pieces to the collection.
Each printable features a fun St. Patrick’s Day-inspired pattern.
These beards can be printed and cut by hand using small scissors, or the Print Then Cut feature of your cutting machine’s design software.
