A few years ago, I felt a bit melancholy for my younger years when I could sit around and read all day. I used to love the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books. I would spend hours weaving my way through these whodunits, assisting the amateur sleuths as they solved mystery after mystery.
Not long after this little memory crossed my mind, I happened into the local Goodwill to see if there was anything costume-closet-worthy. Right in the middle of the aisle was a cart loaded full of Nancy Drew books. Someone must have donated their entire collection!
For a brief moment, I considered pushing the full cart to the checkout to buy them all. But a wave of good sense came over me (meh), and I decided to pick out just a few to bring home.

I have no intention of reading the books as I’m not 10 years old anymore, and I don’t want to tarnish the good memories. So, what am I doing with these thrilling tales?
I thought you’d never ask.
As I’ve mentioned before, I love to tuck little surprises into the decor. Everyone won’t notice these small details. But it’s like finding an Easter egg in a video game or locating hidden Mickey ears at Disney for those who do.
Often, when we decorate for a party, we think we need to “go big or go home” with the decorations. Big pieces are certain to be noticed, and you may need a few, but these little, deadly details can make the biggest impact.
The five titles that I selected work for a Murder Mystery Party or Halloween. I arranged them on one of our bookshelves along with a vintage ladies hat, a clock stuck at midnight, and a magnifying glass. Here they sit and wait to be discovered.
If you want to encourage your guests to seek and find these spooky sprinkles, send them on the hunt. Whoever finds them all first gets a prize, or at least, bragging rights.

So tell me, what mystery and intrigue will you sprinkle into your party decor? A wine glass with “bloody” fingerprints? A ransom note? Perhaps a small bottle of “poison”?Â
Whatever it is, I’d love to see it. Please share it, and be sure to tag me on Instagram or Facebook.
Until next time. Stay mysterious.
