Make A Creepy Halloween Skeleton Bones Gallery
I mentioned in the recent Halloween Spider Hack tutorial that I am a master at procrastinating. Sometimes that makes for unnecessary craziness as a deadline looms over me. But sometimes, it is the last-minute inspiration that yields the best results.
One such inspiration came to me in early October. At first, I considered waiting until 2021 to take on another Halloween project. But then I realized that I had pretty much everything I needed to put this together.
The hardest part of this simple project is deciding what you want in your gallery. So, I’ve included a few resources to get you started.
First, I cleared off the sofa table in the corner of our family room and then I draped it in black velvet fabric.
To begin, I gathered up my large apothecary jars. These have been in my collection for over a decade, but you can still find similar pieces on Amazon, The Jar Store, and Hobby Lobby.
My medium jar holds a Halloween prop skull nestled in some green moss. I have a large bag of Quality Growers Reindeer Basil Moss, which I absolutely love and I use it in a lot of my displays.Â
Next, an inexpensive, Hobby Lobby mirror picked from my stash becomes a tray that showcases an anatomical skull. Furry creepy-crawlies, that I transformed from Dollar Tree spiders, finally get their spotlight in the gallery.
A gnarly branch (a gift from a friend who appreciates my spooky tastes) becomes a roost for a small crow.
A chippy, metal frame holds an antique photo of a young man. Could this be his skull in the jar?
More creepy-crawlies do their work, ensuring the arm and hand bones are spotless. Discovered on Amazon, I love the realistic appearance of these little critters.
I purchased the medical quality bones from Anatomical Chart Company about 15 years ago. At that time, Halloween prop bones weren’t as realistic, and options were limited. Now you have lots of options to choose from, including plastic and foam, which are lighter and less expensive. These can be found at nearly any store that carries Halloween props. A timeworn copy of The Old Curiosity Shop soon captures the interest of a long-legged beastie.
Lastly, a pair of anatomical feet huddle together in a small apothecary jar with another impressive beetle.
I added in some old books and a plant and angled the lights to cast some spooky shadows.
Over the display hangs my grandfather’s military photo. I intend to change that up for 2021 with some more bone-chilling creations, but I like the look for now.
