The Thanksgiving countdown is on as we enter T minus one week til the stuff-your-face feast.
Oh, my Lanta! When did that happen? Wasn’t Halloween just yesterday?
I’m hosting the family festivities this year, and my to-do list is ginormous. There’s the prepping, cleaning, grocery shopping, menu planning, pie making, and turkey basting.Â

But – even with that massive list, I took a minute to step away from the craziness and create mini costume hats that are the perfect fit for feasting with the family.
These cute and quirky toppers add a bit of fun and remind me to enjoy the season.
These are quick to make with supplies you probably already have on hand, and, best of all, you don’t need fancy papers or embellishments. Just print, then cut!
So, let’s get this pre-turkey party started.
Mini Thanksgiving Turkey Top Hat
To begin, we will need the following:
Letter size white cardstock – 2 sheets per hat
Color printer
Cutting machine or scissors – I’m using the Circut Maker
Tape or a glue stick – I’m using both
Hot Glue
Headband – mine is 1/4″ but any size will work

We will also need the free Turkey Time template, featuring two designs, from the Haunted Library.
You can choose from the Print Then Cut Zip file if you want to use your cutting machine’s Print Then Cut feature or select the PDF if you’re going to hand-cut your toppers.
To use a cutting machine such as Cricut, upload the files to your design software.
Note that these images may load larger than the machine allows for Print Then Cut. If so, resize each file as follows:
- Crown & Band 9.250″ W x 5.306″ H
- Top 4.255″ H x 4.260 W
- Brim 4.086″ H x 4.313 W
Cut one of each piece.
If cutting by hand, open the PDF and print, then cut each piece using scissors or an X-Acto knife.

Putting It All Together
Once your pieces are cut, attach the hat band to the crown aligning the bottom edges.

Form crown by overlapping straight edge side onto tabbed side and glue into place.

Next, take the top piece, bend the tabs towards the underside, then slip it into the crown, being mindful of how you want your turkey to face.

Tape or glue the tabs to the inside of the crown.

Locate the two indented tabs on the brim – this is the center back.

Take the brim piece, and bend the tabs towards the topside.
Using your fingers, gently curl the left and right sides of the brim upward.

Line the brim’s center to the crown’s rear seam and tape or glue it into place.
I like to use tape for this as it is a tight fit, and glue can move until set. Also, bending the brim like a taco shell helps get it into place.

Finally, to wear, hot glue your topper to the headband.

Now you’re ready to stuff the turkey and your face in style.

So, which Thanksgiving turkey top hat is your favorite? I can’t decide so maybe I will wear both.
Happy Turkey Day
It’s hard to believe that we are well into the holiday season, and 2022 is nearing its end.
There are a lot more seasonal shenanigans to come but until next time, wishing you and yours a very happy Thanksgiving.
